Important information about my future on Scratch

Earlier this year I decided to leave Scratch after ten years on the site. As of August 2026, this decision is public.

No new projects will be released and, apart from critical bug fixes, existing ones will no longer be updated.

Many of you have probably been expecting this kind of announcement for a while, as the last completely new project on my account was in 2023. This page explains why I did this, what's happening now, and what's going to happen in the future.

Why?

Two main reasons:

  • Lack of time for Scratch. By far the biggest reason. I created my account in 2016, at the time a young (fairly) carefree school student. As I write this, I’m on course to start my Computing and Information Technology course at university later this month. It’s fairly obvious that I’ll have even less time on my hands for Scratch in the years to come.
  • Lack of motivation for the platform in general. My Scratch language skills are fairly basic for most OS creators’ standards (read: pen, save codes, custom apps, windowing, text system etc are all missing from PolluxOS). There isn’t much of an incentive for me to develop those skills when I could just learn real programming languages, as I’m now doing.

PolluxOS Next was already cancelled earlier this year without official announcement due to this.

None of this is new - I took a break from the site in 2020/21 for similar reasons. You can still see this as many of my oldest public projects have a "comments are disabled" notice.

By the way, I closed my separate tech account in April. In that project I basically pre-announced this announcement. If you're reading this and remember that, thank you so much for being that dedicated.

What's happening now

  • PolluxOS is being discontinued and the planned second version of the project, PolluxOS Next, will now not be released. All publicly released versions have been archived at this GitHub repo.
    • I’m still interested in fictional OS and tech projects (this is one reason why cepheid.tech was made) and am looking at how I can continue making them via other platforms at my own pace in the future. If you have any suggestions, let me know.
  • All already released projects will stay up, and any last-minute breaking issues will (hopefully) be fixed. I don’t plan to abandon my account completely, so if you see anything that needs fixing, just let me know.
  • I’ll still reply to comments and questions under my profile and its projects, if you have a problem specific to them. But no begging for me to come back please.

Where to find me

On pretty much all platforms, you can find me by searching for sovenplus. See my contact page for the links.

Historically I’ve kept my Scratch account separate from my social media platforms, because I feel (and still do) that Scratch is not a social media site, even if some users have started behaving as it were in recent times. A few years ago I started relaxing this, and that's the case here too.

Warning

Don't abuse this privilege to send "please come back!!!1!1!" messages. My decisions are my own.
